Octas is a Table-Top Role-Playing Game system based on the use of two 8-sided dice, numbered 0-7. It uses the octal (base-8) numeric system, but is also simple to play in decimal (base-10) via some quick conversion maths on the dice rolls. Both play-modes are supported. But true cybers use octal!
Octas/cyber is a CyberPunk themed version of the game. The combat is intended to be somewhat realistic, so any bullet or serious knife wound is likely to - at best - land you in hospital for a few weeks. The game is balanced to be combat-adverse, with more focus on stealth, negotiation, and action-by-proxy.
Cyberpunk is a genre, the word having been coined by writer Bruce Bethke in 1983, though the genre itself has existed under the broader SciFi umbrella since at least the 1960's. There has since been many books, films, and even games, based around concepts explored in the Cyberpunk genre.
The Octas/cyber game is not directly related to any particular existing Cyberpunk work. Any similarities to other modern works in the field is due to all such works, including Octas/cyber, drawing on many general elements long-established in the genre. The creator of Octas/cyber is aware of the prominent computer and tabletop games already existent in the genre, and has made some effort to not duplicate any original aspects of them.
